Food Truck & Popular Recording Artists Coming to Vancouver
Rusty Hamlin is no ordinary chef. He’s behind the Zac Brown Band’s “Eat & Greet” phenomenon. His cuisine comes from a mobile kitchen, but don’t let that fact influence you. This mobile kitchen has a six-burner stove, four ovens, an 18-foot prep area with three-compartment sink, tilting skillet and a full-size walk-in refrigerator.
He’s on the road with the band to serve up good southern cookin’, but this isn’t your hamburger and hot dog fare – Chef Rusty is making barbecue beef, pork tenderloin rubbed and grilled in signature Georgia Clay Rub and Love sauce, fresh fruit and vegetables, dessert, sweet tea and other delicacies. Rusty was born in Baton Rouge, so he grew up eating jambalaya and gumbo. He went from his mom’s kitchen to seafood manager at a grocery store and then to the Culinary Arts Institute of Louisiana. However, after building his reputation as a sought-after chef in Atlanta, he helped Zac Brown develop the “Eat & Greet” concept. He is described as “an ambassador for a tradition of southern hospitality”.
Now, he’s on the road with the band, and they’re coming here to Vancouver! When you attend an Eat & Greet, you dine with the band – buffet-style Southern food (including, of course, LandShark Lager and Jack Daniel’s)—and have the opportunity to socialize with the musicians over dinner.
The Southern Ground brand can bring some of that down-home style cooking up to Canada: ZBB Southern Ground Cookbook, Southern Ground Grub Brown Sauce and Zac Brown’s Georgia Clay Rub are available for sale so devotees can create their own Southern lovin’ in their own kitchens.
Whether you’re a foodie looking for some good southern-style fare, or a music lover who wants to dine with the band, you have to move fast. The Eat and Greet event and the Zac Brown Band Concert is this Sunday at the Pacific Coliseum!
