Food Truck & Popular Recording Artists Coming to Vancouver – Sept 15

Food Truck & Popular Recording Artists Coming to Vancouver

zac brown

Rusty Hamlin is no ordinary chef. He’s behind the Zac Brown Band’s “Eat & Greet” phenomenon. His cuisine comes from a mobile kitchen, but don’t let that fact influence you. This mobile kitchen has a six-burner stove, four ovens, an 18-foot prep area with three-compartment sink, tilting skillet and a full-size walk-in refrigerator.

He’s on the road with the band to serve up good southern cookin’, but this isn’t your hamburger and hot dog fare – Chef Rusty is making barbecue beef, pork tenderloin rubbed and grilled in signature Georgia Clay Rub and Love sauce, fresh fruit and vegetables, dessert, sweet tea and other delicacies. Rusty was born in Baton Rouge, so he grew up eating jambalaya and gumbo. He went from his mom’s kitchen to seafood manager at a grocery store and then to the Culinary Arts Institute of Louisiana. However, after building his reputation as a sought-after chef in Atlanta, he helped Zac Brown develop the “Eat & Greet” concept. He is described as “an ambassador for a tradition of southern hospitality”.

Now, he’s on the road with the band, and they’re coming here to Vancouver! When you attend an Eat & Greet, you dine with the band – buffet-style Southern food (including, of course, LandShark Lager and Jack Daniel’s)—and have the opportunity to socialize with the musicians over dinner.

The Southern Ground brand can bring some of that down-home style cooking up to Canada: ZBB Southern Ground Cookbook, Southern Ground Grub Brown Sauce and Zac Brown’s Georgia Clay Rub are available for sale so devotees can create their own Southern lovin’ in their own kitchens.

Whether you’re a foodie looking for some good southern-style fare, or a music lover who wants to dine with the band, you have to move fast. The Eat and Greet event and the Zac Brown Band Concert is this Sunday at the Pacific Coliseum!

Les Dames d’Escoffier Chefs’ Table Dine Around – Aug 24

Les Dames d'Escoffier Chefs' Table Dine Around

It’s one of the most fun and best value culinary fundraisers of the year. The Les Dames d’Escoffier Dine Around.  Over twenty restaurants, vineyards, gardens and cooking schools from Vancouver to Whistler, Victoria to Kelowna, North Vancouver to White Rock each donating one “table” for a concurrent dinner party. Same night. Same time. Same price. Just $69 per person including wine.  You choose the restaurant. We choose the menu and the wine.

Each restaurant is priced exactly the same, with each restaurant donating the food menu and table and a winery donating the wine. Gratuity is not included. Restaurants have designed their menu to highlight their own cuisine, so please note this is a night to celebrate food and although health related allergies will be taken into consideration, the menus are set so no special requests can be accommodated.

Your table may be in the dining room or it may be in a very special location like the kitchen or wine room. For those locations offering an outdoor dining experience, particularly in the form of a “picnic” dinner, guests will be informed so as to dress appropriately.

Choose a new restaurant or one of your favourites. Buy a couple of seats at the table, or take the entire table. Some venues have donated 4 seats, some 6, some 8. Each restaurant is priced exactly the same. Les dames members Sea Cider and Spierhead Winery are just some of the wineries joining us this year.

Both restaurant and winery are donating 100% of the food, service and wine, so all proceeds from the dinners will be donated to Les Dames d’Escoffier, BC Chapter, for scholarship and outreach funding. We kindly ask therefore that you do tip your server.

Additionally, a gourmet raffle will be held featuring select Les Dames d’Escoffier member products such as a $100 Shaughnessy Restaurant at Van Dusen dining gift certificate, gourmet baskets, cookbooks, cooking classes from the Dirty Apron Cooking School and tickets to the Vancouver Island Feast of Fields with tickets drawn that night both online and live at an after party at the Hamilton Street Grill in Yaletown. All dames, chefs, restaurateurs and guests are invited!

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, July 25, 2013 – On Saturday, August 3rd JAMCOUVER 2013, a full day skateboarding and live music event, will have people enjoying full bellies and a better understanding of how to help end hunger in our streets. JAMCOUVER 2013 is taking place at Sunset Beach with proceeds raised at the event going to the Jamcouver Cultural Society and A Better Life Foundation. Facebook page

The Jamcouver Cultural Society is honoured to have Save On Meats on-site, serving food throughout the day. Money raised by food sales will be split between A Better Life Foundation and the Jamcouver Cultural Society’s mission to build a permanent indoor skateboard facility in the City of Vancouver.

“Mark [Brand] and his team understand skateboard culture and know what it takes to help a community. We couldn’t ask for a better partner to feed our guests and athletes.” Said Sandro Crison, Jamcouver Cultural Society Chairman.

A Better Life Foundation is re-defining the way people face the challenges of hunger in Vancouver while Jamcouver Cultural Society aims to change negative stereotypes surrounding the skateboard culture and build a permanent place where the community can grow.

“Vancouver is recognized as one of the best cities to skate in the summer months,” said Mark Brand, owner of Save On Meats, acknowledging the need for a permanent indoor park. “Jamcouver Cultural Society, with the right partners, is the organization to realize it.” adds Brand.

By partnering together on a free all-ages public event, both non-profit organizations will have a platform to interact with curious spectators and inspire crowds to think differently about the world around them.
