On the Menu Today at Faubourg New Bakery

Faubourg Signage

Faubourg second location just opened yesterday.  I am just dying for more bakeries downtown Vancouver. Located right beside Artigiano’s coffee on Hornby. It’s a quant place to chill-out after dinner, it’s relaxing and the décor features two gorgeous chandeliers right underneath a communal table.

With a decent pastry selection, I choose the croissant, lemon tart and almond twist pastry.

The croissant dough is yeast-risen, apparently this enhances the flavor. It was fairly light and flaky, the only con, was that it could have been more flakier, felt like it’s been sitting there a while. The bottom was a denser than I liked.

The lemon tart was one of my favourite from Faubourg’s first location, so I had to reorder it.

The almond twist pastry, not what it was called was the better pastry of the two, this was not too sweet, super flaky with the right amount of chewiness from the honey. Sooo good.

Irish Heather – Long Table Series

Irish Heather – Long Table Series – Gastown Vancouver, BC

Restaurant did get back to me via Twitter regarding the Lamb. As long as the quality of the lamb is good the it is more than ok to consume a rare lamb patty

I love the social aspect of Irish Heather’s Long Table Series. Sharing a meal with 25 other like minded foodies over funny conversations. It was a sold out night and everyone was friendly, relaxed and more than willing to share some laughs.

Featured beer: Kronenbourg Blanc

Kronenbourg Blanc Beer

Brewed in Alsace, France, this is a light, crisp beer with notes of peach, pink grapefruit, coriander and, orange.

Paired with: Lamb Burger, Mint Salsa, Shaved Asiago Cheese, Caramelized Onions With A Radish & Arugula Salad. The burger was too saucy, making everything seem soggy.

Lamb Burger

The lamb was too rare for my taste. No, I did NOT get sick. Apparently, it is ok to eat it this rare .

Rare Lamb Patty

Judging by the reviews from patrons that were there and who attended multiple times and reviews from other bloggers this was just an off night. I will be back!

Mrs. Cheap Eats Guru – Gastronomic Richmond Tour

Our friend Vivian “Mrs. Cheap Eats Guru” took us on a budget friendly, gastronomic tour in Richmond. This girl can spot a good deal blindfolded and wearing noise cancelling headphones. Yes, she is an authentic Chinese, no CBC, banana here. The food we ate are from consistently top rated dining joints in Richmond. Despite my hangover and 4 Advil’s later I hopped on the Canada line to Aberdeen Centre to start my gastronomic adventure.

Wo Fung Dessert

Aberdeen Centre

Don’t let the name fool you, I saw no desserts on the menu board. Not bitching, how can I be mad when they serve awesome chicken wings?

Curry fish balls, personally the curry tasted too artificial for me. We all agreed we could get better at the night market $3.50. Food Persuasion level: [rating=3]

Chicken wings $4 – What is in this batter that makes it so damn addictive?? I’m not a wings kind of girl but, this I love. It was juicy, crispy and the batter…Reminds me of the popular wings at the Vietnamese restaurant in Chinatown, Phnom Penh. Food Persuasion level: [rating=5]

Lemon tea $2 – ridiculously cheap, I mean you can’t really go wrong with lemon, sugar and tea. Food Persuasion level: [rating=3]

Excellent Tofu & Snacks

Address: In the centre across from Aberdeen

Nearing the end of our food tour I was stuffed, my bottomless friend Jing decided not to share, she wanted the dessert all to herself. Lucky me, the tofu dessert was scrumptious. I never feel guilty eating tofu, despite the sugar, coconut milk, pearls and the taro.

BBQ Duck, people actually call in advance to reserve the duck. It’s insane, we went there around 3 and a lady in front of me purchased $67 worth of duck!! By the time it was my turn, it was sold out! I heard a collective groan from the lineup behind me. I hope she enjoys or gallons of duck I couldn’t try!!!
